Food & Beverage Service (NVQ Diploma) - Work-based - Level 2

The NVQ is suitable for anyone either in full-time employment or progressing from a Level 1 qualification or those who are able to start a qualification at Level 2.

This qualification requires learners to complete a mandatory work/industry placement experience throughout the duration of the qualification, before certification.

What will I study on this course?

Mandatory Units as follows - 37 Credits:

• Maintain a safe, hygienic and secure working environment
• Work effectively as part of a hospitality team
• Give customers a positive impression of self and your organisation
• Maintain food safety when storing, holding and serving food

Optional Units as follows:

• Prepare and clear areas for counter and takeaway service
• Maintain and deal with payments
• Provide a counter and takeaway service
• Prepare and clear areas for table service
• Serve food at the table
• Prepare and serve hot drinks using specialist equipment
• Serve alcoholic and soft drinks
• Resolve customer service problems
• Maintain cellar and kegs

You must be 19 years or older in the previous academic year to access this course.

It would be advantageous to have some recent, relevant experience within this sector, but it is not essential.

You must be in a paid or voluntary role in a suitable workplace setting for 10 hours a week.

You will ideally hold a grade 4 or above in English but it is not essential. An assessment may be carried out to determine suitability if you do not hold this qualification.

You must meet certain eligibility requirements to be funded for this qualification. You can obtain funding through the Adult Skills Fund. More details can be provided on application.

Delivery is remote and flexible. There is no mandatory attendance in college for this course as it is work based.

You will attend training sessions, and an assessor will visit you in the workplace to assess your knowledge and skills in your job role.
