Pre-Access to Humanities & Social Sciences - Level 2 - Part-Time

This course, which will run one day per week will provide an introduction to core subject knowledge and relevant academic skills. You will be introduced to basic concepts in History, English Literature, Sociology and Psychology.

You will also have the opportunity to enhance your maths and English skills, as well as specific study skills sessions (such as spelling and writing, critical thinking, research skills etc.) to improve proficiency and build confidence to help aid the transition of returning to education.

What will I study on this course?

Units will include:

• Introduction to English Literature
• Introduction to History
• Introduction to Sociology
• Introduction to Psychology

Whilst this course has no official entry requirements, you will have an interview / information session with the course director to demonstrate an interest to progress with the area.

Learners with an active Education, Health & Care Plan

If you are aged 19 - 24 at the start of your course and have an active Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP), any course up to and including level 3 will be fully-funded by the government. This means you will not have a course fee to pay and any equipment considered essential to complete your course will be provided by the college.

What qualification will I achieve?

• NOCN Level 2 Certificate in Progression to Further Study in Humanities, Social Sciences and the Arts
• You will also get the opportunity to work towards a GCSE or functional skills qualifications in English and / or Maths if you do not have these already. These will generally be taught on a second day at college or online (currently a Wednesday).

How is my course assessed?

Learners will be assessed with written assignments, group work and by demonstrating an understanding of the unit
