Increase your knowledge and understanding of common childhood illnesses, including how to provide a safe and healthy environment for babies and young children. Also learn how to recognise when a baby or child is unwell, and how to manage acute and chronic health conditions in an early years setting. Whether you are an individual looking to upskill in this area or an employer looking to train your staff, this course will provide all the necessary skills in common childhood illnesses for those working in childcare settings.
Unit 1: Understand how to provide a safe and healthy environment for babies and young children Explore ways to minimise cross infection and maintain a safe and hygienic environment for babies and young children.
Unit 2: Understand common childhood illnesses Recognise when a child is unwell, and common childhood illnesses that may occur. Consider the policies and procedures relating to unwell children in an early years setting.
Unit 3: Understand health emergencies and specific health conditions in an early years setting Consider the role of the practitioner in relation to common accidents and basic first aid, as well as serious illness requiring emergency support. Acute and chronic health conditions, including how to manage allergies in the setting, will also be covered.

Depending on your age, course, educational history and personal circumstances, there may be options available for you to receive a course fully-funded by the government. Our fee calculator will help give you an idea on whether you'll be able to have your course fee waived or covered by an Advanced Learner Loan.
If you are aged 19 - 24 at the start of your course and have an active Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP), any course up to and including level 3 will be fully-funded by the government. This means you will not have a course fee to pay and any equipment considered essential to complete your course will be provided by the college.
