Early Years Lead Practitioner - Apprenticeship - Level 5

As active practitioners they are effective role models of play based learning, supporting others to develop their own practice. They are highly skilled professionals who take an operational lead for the care, learning and development of all young children within their care, adapting to individual needs providing inclusive and holistic provision.

They engage with sector developments both locally and nationally, with a commitment to developing their own professional and educational competencies.

In their daily work, an employee in this occupation interacts with children aged birth to eight years, families, practitioners, other professionals and appropriate agencies. An employee in this occupation will be responsible for supporting the quality of learning and development in their setting. They lead on the operational aspects of this provision and are typically responsible for leading other practitioners, an aspect or environment such as; Communication and Language, Planning and Assessment, Forest School, Physical Activity and Nutrition. They usually report directly to the head of the setting (The Manager, The Leader, The Director).

You will need:

• GCSE grade 4 in English & maths is preferable but not essential.
• An interview and Initial assessments will be carried out to determine suitability to work at this level. You should ideally hold a level 3 Early Years qualification.
• You must have recent relevant experience of working in a childcare setting in a supervisory role. You should be working in a role that is within a senior capacity within the early years sector. The setting must be Ofsted Registered as an early years provider, and you must be working in the age range of birth-5.
• Your job role should be for at least 30 hrs per week, although we can consider part time roles.

How many hours / days per week is this course?

Flexible but you need an employer to commence the apprenticeship. You will required to attend monthly group online training sessions throughout the course.

How is my course assessed?

You will build an e-portfolio of evidence and will be assessed in the workplace using a range of methods, for example written assignments, case study work, reflective accounts and practical observation etc. An Assessor will visit you in the workplace on a regular basis in order to support you. The end point assessment is carried out by an independent and impartial assessor and includes: an observation with questions, professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence, and a case study with report and presentation and questioning
