Finding and Developing Independence foundation learners from College of West Anglia (CWA) visited Alive Corn Exchange as part of their course to learn about the types of jobs available in a theatre environment.

The students shadowed James Heron, Senior Technician at Alive Corn Exchange who showed the learners his job role which includes installing and independently maintaining all the equipment and systems in the building to ensure that it is in full working order for all events. The students got involved in checking and using the lighting systems in the venue as well as testing out the music to ensure all speakers were in working order. Following the backstage tour, the learners were shown how to book and print tickets from the box office and use the tills at the kiosks to sell refreshments to customers.

“It was a fantastic opportunity for the learners to gain insight into the different jobs at Alive Corn Exchange. The learners got to interact with members of staff, who were happy to show them what they do within their working day. The learners were engaged and enjoyed their experience. James Heron - Technical Manager at Alive Corn Exchange said:

"I thoroughly enjoyed showing the students around the venue and demonstrating how things worked, we rigged lights and cables and played music through the new EM Halo B PA system. Everyone then had a sing and dance to the music. The students were delightful and were all keen to get involved. Everyone enjoyed themselves especially the popcorn at the end."
