College of West Anglia student Molly Hewitt gets the gold at WorldSkills UK Final!

WorldSkills UK is the nation’s largest skills and careers event. It brings together apprentices, students and young people from across the country to vie to be the best in their chosen skills. The competitions, which run in over 62 skills areas, encourage young people to be ambitious in their pursuit of excellence, while equipping them with life-long skills.

In the category of Health and Social Care, Molly Hewitt from College of West Anglia (CWA) competed and won the gold medal at the national finals! The awards ceremony was held Friday 17th November at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester.

Molly studies T-Level Adult Nursing at CWA and has a work placement at local Queen Elizabeth Hospital as part of her course. Molly is planning on completing a degree in nursing once she completes her course.

Kelly-Anne Neal – T Level Course Director at CWA said:

“The WorldSkills UK competition requires commitment, hard work, passion, teamwork and professionalism. I was so pleased to get 2 students into the final 8 of the WorldSkills UK competition and thrilled to bits when Molly won the gold medal. It really is a testament to not only Molly’s professional development but also the Health and Social Care teachers involved in her education. I work with someone the most inspirational young people I have ever met. Seeing both girls confidence grow over the last week has been a highlight of my professional career, I can’t wait to do it all again next year.

David Pomfret, Principal at CWA said:

“I'm delighted that all 6 of our WorldSkills UK competitors performed incredibly in the national finals last week, and that Molly Hewitt won the Gold Medal in Health & Social Care. I'd like to thank all those staff that inspired and supported our students to compete. The standard is incredibly high, which is why it is known as the 'Skills Olympics', and I'm immensely proud that CWA once more had more WorldSkills UK finalists, and achieved more medal points, than any other college in the East of England.
