Course Description
During the course, you'll learn a broad range of core topics relevant to the sector, including:
- understanding of materials, conditions and design processes and products
- essential mathematics; standard matrices, determinants and trigonometry related to engineering
- material processing techniques and material properties
- general business commercial principles related to engineering and manufacturing
Mechanical Engineering
By joining this course, you'll not only gain an excellent practical skillset to work in the engineering industry, you'll also specialise in mechanical engineering, focussing on the following:
- Designing (specifications, sketches, justifications, calculations)
- Manufacturing (risk assessment, prototypes and testing)
- Peer reviews
- Evaluation and implementation (virtual modelling, revision control and reporting)
Work placement
Throughout this course, you'll be able to put everything you learn into practice in the workplace as you'll be expected to complete 315 hours (around 45 days) relevant work experience over the two years.

You will need:
- GCSE maths at grade 5 or above (from a higher tier paper)
- 4 other GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English

This course is assessed by skills related projects, core examinations and an employer set project.
