“I chose to take my degree at UcWA as it is close to home and I knew that the course would only be two days a week. Those days stay the same for the whole three years. At other universities, days change each term, which wasn’t suitable for me with two small children. I also knew the tutors, as I had studied Access to Business beforehand and I knew I would be building on this knowledge with the next step in a degree.
I always knew I wanted to return to education after having my children as I enjoyed education in my younger school years. I wanted better job prospects and future for myself and my children. I also wanted to show my children that anything is possible when you work hard. Just because you have children young, doesn’t mean you can’t get a degree later on.
At UcWA, I liked that the classes were smaller, which meant we got the benefit of having a tutor/student relationship. The tutor knew who we were at a personal level and we didn’t have the typical university experience of having to book meetings at the end of a lecture to see the lecturer. We weren’t just numbers; we were actual people at UcWA. Also, I studied alongside students who I’d also done the Access course with. This helped so much as everyone knew who you were and this made group work easier. I also liked the way the content was delivered and that if I did not understand something, I could ask questions and not just have to walk away confused.
I have fond memories of UcWA. The support I received throughout my degree was fantastic. The facilities are clean and modern. I was always able to have good conversations with the tutors. I believe the support I received helped me to achieve a first.
To anyone considering studying at UcWA, I would say ‘Do it!! Don’t hesitate’. We spend so long thinking everything over and wondering if we are capable of doing something, just go for it. I would encourage anyone to go back to education.
Have a look around the facilities, meet your tutors and get a feel for the UcWA. The smaller groups make learning more manageable and enjoyable. The tutors are specialists in their field the same as at a “normal university”, but the atmosphere is completely different, far more welcoming.”
